Link to a note
Type [[ anywhere in the editor to trigger the autocomplete dropdown. It searches and lists existing notes across your vault as you type; use ArrowDown/ArrowUp and press Enter or Tab to insert the link and automatically close the brackets.
Use the rubric in [[Review standards]].The brackets become visually quiet while reading and return when the caret enters the link. If the linked target is connected to a software project, its project favicon (or initial placeholder) appears directly beside the link. Hold Ctrl or Cmd and click it to open the target.
To display different words, separate the target and label with a pipe:
Follow [[Review standards|the team rubric]].The target is still Review standards; the sentence displays “the team rubric.”
Create a link from a selection
Select text and press [. The editor wraps one bracket level per press, so pressing it twice produces a wiki link. Backspace peels one wrapping level at a time when the editor recognizes that selection.
The context menu also offers linking actions for selected text. Its note picker filters the loaded vault immediately; use the arrow keys and Enter to choose a target.
Follow a missing target
If no note has the linked title, following the link offers to create it. Confirm the intended note type and title rather than changing the link silently.
Read backlinks
The Linked from panel lists every note that points to the open one. This is the fastest way to answer “why does this exist?” and the place to inspect before a rename or delete.
Backlinks are derived from the current Markdown and search index. If an externally edited link has not appeared, reopen the vault or allow the file watcher to refresh the index.
Link within a note
Type (( in the editor to reference another part of the same note — a heading or bubble of the
note you are writing, not a different note. The autocomplete lists the note’s own sections; pick
one and the closing parentheses are inserted for you.
See ((Release checklist)) below for the steps.Clicking the reference smooth-scrolls to that section and briefly glows it so the target is obvious. A subtle Back pill appears and returns you to where you jumped from.
The parens stay visible while you type and quieten once the reference resolves, exactly like wiki
link brackets. A long first line is matched by a short, distinctive prefix — ((release)) can
point at a bubble whose heading is much longer — and hovering the link shows the full target.
Automatic link updates on rename
When you rename a note, sudonotes automatically updates all [[wiki links]] pointing to it across every note in your vault while preserving existing custom aliases. The file, collection folders, and cross-references stay synchronized effortlessly.
